Dolan with Ian Macpherson & Igor Glenn

New:  September 2006:  A video clip of Dolan offering his heartfelt thanks to Ian for his pro-bono work that helped to get the Arizona Folklore Preserve established, when legal battles otherwise might have stopped the project in its tracks.

While a college student in Phoenix in the 1960s, Ian Macpherson was a folksinger in the coffee houses of the day, and a very good one at that.  He's still very good, whether he's playing pure folk music or lively bluegrass.  And he has a wonderful, clear voice.  He could have stayed in the business, but instead he chose to become an attorney.  An attorney who was very important to the Arizona Folklore Preserve, but more on that later...

A more comprehensive biography of Igor Glenn can be found on his own Web site, as well as the AFP guest artist page for Igor's Jazz Cowboys.   Just a quick rundown is that Igor's Jazz Cowboys travel everywhere for jazz festivals, and their unique and lively approach to jazz wins them many loyal fans.  Igor was Dolan's bass man for many years, and was a member of the New Christy Minstrels from 1969 through 1971.

Ian Macpherson is a very generous attorney who has done a tremendous amount of pro bono work for the Arizona Folklore Preserve, and in particular for his friend Dolan Ellis.  On the particular weekend when this photo was taken, in June 2002, Dolan introduced Ian to the audience as the one who had helped overcome hurdles back in 1996 to get the AFP open in the first place.  Ian received something close to a standing ovation for that announcement.

The shows that weekend were a lot of fun, with Ian, Igor, and Dolan taking turns, presenting their songs and playing and harmonizing with the others.
