Dolan Ellis

Arizona's Official State Balladeer

Travis Edmonson, best known as half of the Bud & Travis duo from 1958 through 1965, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2009.

Travis was Dolan's mentor beginning almost 50 years ago, teaching him to play the difficult "huapango" strum and to sing Travis' beautiful signature song, "Malaguena Salerosa."

A tribute page for Travis is coming soon. In the meantime, please visit the Travis page that has been on this site for many years.

First-time visitor?  Wonder who Dolan Ellis is?  What a Balladeer is?  Be sure to check out the Quick Facts page.

There are now many short videos on this site.  You can find them on the song pages: original songs and cover songs. A good variety of music is offered, and the videos capture Dolan's stage personality as well as his musicianship.  Plus, there's a page with nothing but humorous video clips.

"Dolan Ellis, I'm happy to report, is playing and singing better than ever! ...he's still very much like the kid who excited all of our audiences in the sixties..."

- Randy Sparks, Founder, "Inventor," and Original Leader of the Grammy-winning New Christy Minstrels, after seeing Dolan in concert in February 2005

"[Dolan Ellis] celebrates the beauty of our multifaceted State: its deserts, forests, lakes, and mountains. A dramatic performer and talented photographer, his one-man shows are an experience you won't soon forget."

- Gustave Erickson, "Echoes of a Different Drum"
